Garden party with plenty of horsepower: Taycan visits the Festival of Speed

Mark Webber took to the wheel of the new all electric Porsche Taycan when the car showed off its amazing capabilities at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

“The Taycan’s power delivery is awesome,” said Webber “I took part in this event in a Porsche 911 GT2 RS two years ago, so I already knew that it all comes down to power and traction. But, even for me, it is amazing how the Taycan – even though it’s still a prototype – accelerates off the start and out of the corners,”

The Taycan will be presented in September and launched on the market at the end of the year. As to be expected from the Porsche brand, the development goals for the all-wheel drive vehicle with over 600 PS included circuit performance and multiple acceleration runs, as well as a range suitable for everyday use. The car’s 800-volt architecture will enable short charging times and the lithium-ion battery will boast a capacity of around 90 kWh.

The most significant facts from the Taycan testing phase:

  • Overall distance covered: Approximately six million kilometres, of which two million were endurance run kilometres

  • Countries: A total of 30, including the USA, China, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Finland

  • Temperatures: From minus 35 to plus 50 degree Celsius

  • Air humidity: From 20 to 100 per cent

  • Altitude: From 85 metres below to 3,000 metres above sea level

  • Charging cycles: Over 100,000 using various charging technologies across the globe

  • Development team: Around 1,000 test drivers, technicians and engineers
