The new Mini Electric is being prepared for the official launch and is due off the UK production line later this year with deliveries to new owners starting around March 2020

The car will have a range of 200 km (124 miles) to 232 km (140 miles) under Europe's WLTP test regime. The car uses a 32.6 kilowatt-hour battery pack.

The MINI ELECTRIC is based on the conventionally powered MINI 3-door. It keeps exactly the same boot capacity because its high-voltage battery is cleverly housed in the vehicle floor. This is creative use of space in its most modern form. The battery allows for a range of 235 kms. The new MINI Electric comes standard with a fast charging DC feature which allows the battery to be recharged in only 35 minutes time.

With 184 hp and the spontaneous power development that is typical for electric motors, the MINI ELECTRIC keeps some sports cars at a distance at the traffic lights accelerating in a mere 3.9 seconds from zero to 60 km / h. Perfect traction and driving stability are guaranteed by the innovative wheel slip limitation, which was developed especially for electric vehicles.

Standard features of the MINI ELECTRIC include LED headlamps, a 2-zone climate control system, heating with heat pump technology, stationary air conditioning and auxiliary heating, as well as a navigation system that displays - among other things - the range in the form of an operating radius and charging stations in the area.

There are four modes to choose from in the MINI Cooper SE. Sport mode differs from the standard MID setting, with a more direct characteristic steering curve and a particularly spontaneous response of the drive system.

The comfort-oriented steering characteristics of the MID setting are also active in GREEN mode, as well as in the new GREEN+ mode specially configured for the new MINI Cooper SE. What is more, the drive system in these two latter modes is geared towards maximum efficiency. In GREEN+ mode, additionally selected comfort functions such as heating, air conditioning and seat heating are limited or deactivated in order to increase the range of the vehicle.

Mini said it has priced the car to be widely affordable, with monthly leasing rates starting at 299 pounds in the UK.  The price to buy the car in the UK will be from 24,400 to 30,400 pounds including a government plug-in car grant. In Germany, the Mini Electric will start at 32,000 euros. Prices for the U.S., where it will be called the Mini Cooper SE, were not disclosed.
